Exercise and Anxiety in Children

    Share

Adults know that a sedentary lifestyle can bring on bouts of depression for no seemingly apparent reason. However, the reason may be related to lack of exercise. This is also true of children who do not receive adequate exercise every day. Kids' anxiety can be relieved with exercise. The reason is simple: Exercise takes a certain amount of mental focus and physical exertion. One benefit of insuring that kids have adequate daily exercise is a stronger immune system. The body expels impurities with physical exertion and the mind is dedicated to the motion and energy required to complete an exercise program.

The Most Important Reason for Relieving Kids' Anxiety with Exercise
Among the benefits of relieving kids' anxiety with exercise is that it helps kids develop a certain confidence in them. Developing self-confidence dispels the usual childhood anxieties and peer pressures associated with kids' normal environments. A child who is certain of their physical abilities is a child who has learned the value of confidence in themselves.

How Much Daily Exercise Should Kids Receive?
Since each child is an individual with different energy levels and stamina, the amount of exercise depends on each child. However, parents who encourage exercise from a very early age know that it becomes part of everyday life and not just a "must do" ritual. Kids learn by example more than verbal tutelage or guidance. When they see the importance of regular daily exercise in their parents' lives, they more easily adopt a healthier lifestyle for themselves.

Exercise and Rest - Partners in Good Health
Most parents take note of the times when their kids are outdoors playing sports or taking active part in other physical exercise their kids sleep is more restful. Exercise tires the body but also helps the mind relax and become ready for a full night's sleep.

Childhood Anxieties - Exercise Them Away
Kids always manufacture some new anxiety on a day-by-day basis to the amazement of their parents. Insuring their kids receive an acceptable level of exercise does more than just relieve their anxieties. Exercise also increases their cognitive abilities. This is a very valuable benefit that helps children in decision-making processes. When kids engage in exercise with friends, they are able to observe their own ability to work with others and to negotiate more easily.

Exercise and Anxious Kids
Before choosing behavioral drugs for kids, parents may want to try a more healthy approach to behavioral problems. While this may not be a prescription for all kids, exercise can be beneficial in teaching children the most important characteristic of their lives: self-discipline. Self-discipline is what exercise is really all about. Once children learn to train themselves their ability to succeed in their accomplishments becomes less stressful. Involving kids in team activities is a constructive prerequisite for their future.

Kids don't need a particularly forceful regime in order to exercise. Rather, it may be easier for parents to involve their children in simple every day physical tasks.
